Well, even though we are in Thailand Amy and I picked this year’s Archibald Prize winner simply off the internet.
Looking at all the finalists Guy Maestri’s portrait of Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu stuck out prominently. The haunting and shadowy contours of Yunupingu’s face stood out. His eyes appear almost absent. Its a very memorable piece. Amy [...]

Have you ever wondered where Australia has got free trade agreements? As talks start with Korea, it is worth considering that all of our FTA partners are members of APEC (with the exception of the Gulf States).
ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA

Turnbull on the stimulus package

Here is Turnbull’s response to Rudd on the stimulus package. He makes some good points. The cash hand-outs are getting out of hand. Amy and I wont be spending them on stimulating the Australian economy, as I presume many other Australians wont either. They are going straight into the bank. Its an ill-conceived policy. Why [...]

In two weeks I have to run the Australian cultural night with the English students. Last night we held the American cultural night. My contribution was quipping that California’s official nickname must be “the Silicon State” (which no one seemed to get) and being the official photographer for the night.
Anyhow, it was good thing that [...]

Now is the time, Mr Rudd, to act on Burma.
The world’s attention will still be Burma for a short while, but it needs to happen now.
As a new Prime Minister Mr Howard established his regional credibility by leading the liberation of East Timor. His commitment carried him through the ensuing setbacks, including the potential risk [...]
